I had tried my best not to go hunting during level 4 but the dogs did not know any difference. One day while down feeding the sheep Bro and Rastus tracked up into the covernanted block and around into some thick cover above the road. This stuff was that tight that it took me 15 minutes just to get in the last couple of meters to shoot this pig and it turned out to be a sow. Normally I don’t like killing sows this close to home but I could not see the pig until the gun was almost touching her head. Luckily I only had to drag her down hill to the track.
Next day Janice and I we’re moving some sheep down to the hut block, I had gone down ahead in the use with the hay feeder on the trailer while Janice was coming down behind on the 4 wheeler following the sheep. A couple of he lambs went down below the track so Janice got off the bike to move them along when she heard a noise up dehind her. She quickly realized that she had not put the handbrake on the bike properly and it went down off the end of the track. Luckily I managed to get it off the fence and ride it back up to the shed
. Now waiting on insurance to find out if it can be fixed. It’s going to be hard going without the bike for a while.
Next day I was down the hill with the dogs while burning some rubbish when the dogs bailed in the covernanted block again. Because I had the use and not the bike I had no knife, no gun and no cell phone to film. I knew that I had a knife at the hut so I went and grabbed it. Meanwhile the dogs had brought this 70 pound boar down to the creek below the white gates. I don’t know what happened to Fog as he did not turn up but the other 3 dogs had this boar under control so it was easy to stick it and drag it up to the track. The 3 Pigs that I had caught during level 4 lockdown were all within 0.4 of a pound so maybe they could all be from the same litter.
First morning of level 3 I decided to take Bro and Rastus for a quick hunt opposite the house and they did not disappoint with a nice bail of a 102 pound boar in some tight crap. I was soaking wet with sweat by the time I got this one out. I left this boar down on the road to collect later and walked home. Going to collect this boar I took Tig with the intention of catching some possums for the dogs tea. Tig did catch 2. Saves having to go out to get dog food and the fur is worth good money. I see in the shops possyum pet rolls are $13 each for a 2kg roll.
