I got up this morning with full intentions of going for a pig hunt but as soon as I started to put the collars on the dogs the rain started pouring down. One hour later the rain started to ease so away we went. Lightning, Fog and Thunder on his first hunt. All three dogs tracked off the track and 350 meters up the hill. At this point Fog turned around and came back to me while both Lightning and Fog tracked over into the next gully. As I started walking up this gully I first heard Lightning open up with a good bail 170 meters away.
Not long after this Fog opened up on another bail 370 meters away. With Lightning being closer it was an easy decision to head for Lightning. Thunder joined in before I got there and then Fog obviously came off his pig and joined the two dogs. I gave the three dogs about five minutes bailing this pig while I checked to see that it was a boar and not a sow. Once I knew that it was definitely a boar and I thought that the dogs had enough practice I shot the boar to see how Fog would react to the gun going off. Once this boar was gutted and on my back I did not get far before Lightning opened up on another bail only seventy meters away. As soon as the other two dogs arrived I heard the pig try and break as the dogs grabbed it which sounded like a seventy pound sow. I quick whistle and the dogs were back in heal and we were back on track to the motor bike. This turned out to be a good pig for Thunders first boar on his first hunt at only seven months old, 91 pounds.
