Spraying

Pig fence
At the start of the spraying job about to head up the fence line

One of those jobs that comes around every year as the grass starts to grow again. To keep the pigs in the fences have to be good. To build the fence took me a year of my spare time, it is 1.5 km long and fences off a 25 acre block of pines and native. I have used sheep netting right around the block with an electric fence inside that. What happens at this time of the year the grass grows up into the electric fence and starts to short out so the electric shock does not work. I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that the fence has not been giving off as much shock as it should be so it was time to spray again. In the last couple of years I have sprayed around the hot wire with round up but this would only work temporarily as the round up would only kill what is growing so each year I would have to

spray the fence lines two or three times. This year I was told about a spray called Terminator that kills everything and keeps on killing what ever tries to grow on that ground.  In past years it has taken 7 x 15 litre spray packs to get around the fence but I normally spray any weeds that are close to the fence as well like hemlock, haw hound, fuchsia, Fox glove or thistles. This year using the Terminator I stuck to spraying just the fence line and got it all done in one day and only used 40 litres of spray. So now its just a matter of sitting back and seeing if it works OK.
