This was to be the second year that the ridgeline team have travelled up to help out with this competition. The competition was being run as a fund raiser for the local school and held at the local hotel. A lot of the organising was done by the Mason family who also had a trophy that they had donated for the biggest boar in memory of Mr Mason.
We arrived only 30 minutes before the weigh in was due to start and quickly set up our ridgeline gazebo and had every thing else sorted out in super quick time. As it turned out most of the hunters seem to be to shy to be the first to weigh an animal in. This gave us time to read through the rules that they had made for their comp as all of the judges needed to know them like the minimum weight 25kg, Boars with nuts in. A separate ladies section. There was a section for sows, they did not have a limit on the amount of pigs any one hunter could weigh in. They even had a prize for the most pigs on one truck.
The weigh in time was between 1pm – 3pm and by 2.45 we had only weighed in 13 pigs and 3 stags. In the last 15 minutes their was a line up of vehicles with Andy Moriarty towing a trailer with 9 pigs on board followed by another ute with 8 pigs on board, this brought the number of pigs up quick.
