Weigh in for this competition was on the 7st of July. Once again Wayne and Miranda Paget put a lot of work into organising this competition. I was told 2 years ago that the publican Keith Benwick had the place on the market so would not be around next year however the pub has not yet sold so 2 years on and Keith is still there. I’m surprised some pig hunter has not come along and brought this pub as it’s a great place in any rural area to find out where the pigs are in the area. He had also donated a spot prize of $500 cash again.
A couple of the hunters were telling me that the deer numbers are starting to pick up yet there was only two deer weighed in, I guess that’s what you get with diehard pig hunters. Our Ridgeline judging team have been judging this competition for a number of years now so I have looked back over the previous results which are:
2011: 31 Boars, 13 Sows and 2 Deer
2012: 11 Boars, 10 Sows and 1 Deer.
2013: while I don’t have the number of boars I see that Andy Moriarty got the prize for the most boars on one truck with 9 and there were 2 sows and 1 deer.
2016: 42 Boars, 19 Sows and 5 Deer
2017: 22 Boars, 13 Sows and 2 Deer
2018: 30 Boars, 13 Sows and 3 Deer
2019: 28 Boars, 3 Sows and 2 Deer
