- Reece drove up 3 hours from Dunedin to give his 3 dogs a run in the training block.
He had 3 dogs, the oldest was a 6 year old bitch (Pip) next was 2 year old Carn and the youngest was B at just 1 year old. As Reece described it Pip who was his main finder would not make a lot of noise when bailing so when the other dogs heard her bail if she was a long way off the other dogs would not go all the way to her.
So far B had only gone to dogs that were holding a pig and Reece wanted to get her to bail.
As we entered the block we walked the dogs right to the black boar and got them to bail. He did not stay around too long so we headed down the block intending to cut them off. B and Carn came back to us as it hit the creek and Pip stayed with him for another minute before coming back to us. As we got the dogs back onto the scent they took off up the opposite face and started bailing. At first it was just Pip bailing until we got closer and encouraged the other two dogs to join In. However this time we did not have the black boar but the black and white boar. So the black boar had given us the slip onto black and white. It took a wee bit to encourage B to join In as she wanted to stay back with Reece. Reece was doing the right thing buy giving her a pat but she wanted to stay with him rather than go back to the bail. Once Reece stopped patting her she went back to the bail and over the next 2 hours she loved standing in front of the boar bailing.
I just love seeing dogs that are just waiting for that chance to shine. The next time B sees a pig she will act differently.
