New pup, Gus Time to take on a new pup as Bro is now 2 1/2. This time around, I went to John Lockley as he has breed many great pig dogs over a lot of years.
My wife Janice came up with the name Gus. Both of Gus’s parents belonged to friends of mine from the South Canterbury pig hunting club. Paul had Gus’s father, Blake, who appears to be a very good pig dog, and Boom has Gus,s mother, which is one of his main dogs. Gus is a happy little pup that is going to grow into a big dog as his breeding is Greyhound/Lab. On our trip home, his behavior was good with no winning, and he was not car sick or shitting in his wee cat cage. As soon as I let him out at home, he went to the toilet. He seems to prefer not to shit in his kennel unless left in there too long. As long as I clean it out every time, he will prefer a clean kennel.
He sees the chickens and every now and then runs at them, but he has learned to play without biting hard, which is something that he would have learned from his litter mates.
He has already seen a wild boar in the training block, but I am not yet going to encourage him to do anything yet as he needs to do a lot of playing while growing up.
When he is off, he is like my shadow, so it is easy to get him to come up to me any time I talk to him
