Matt travelled up from Oamaru to give his 3 young dogs some bailing time in the training block. We used Fog as the mentor dog and He did not disappoint as he tracked straight up through the block and put up a bail. All we had to do was wait down in the gully for Matt’s 3 dogs to arrive and as predicted they broke the grey boar down into the gully right to us.
Because the dogs were fresh and keen they couldn’t help themselves but get in on the boar which kept him moving untill they started tiring at which piont I whistled Fog into heal taking some of the pressure off the boar which gave us the bail we were after. Matt’s youngest dog Storm was 8 months old and so far had only seen a couple of pigs that were being held so did not know anything about bailing but he stepped up and bailed well. Ziggy was about 2 but because Matt’s 2 main dogs that he did not bring are holders Ziggy had mainly learnt to hold. For the first 20 minutes the dogs were trying to hold but the muzzles meant that bailing was so much easier.
