I was looking forward to letting Mathew see how I train pig dogs. In our early texts Mathew had been told that he would ruin his dog if he brought it in to me to train. How I love a challenge. As we entered the pig block my two mentor dogs Tig and Rastus tracked up the left side of the block and did not take long to put up a bail.
Rather than us going up I suggested that we go up the opposite side to look back at the dogs. As soon as we were in place the dogs brought the black and white boar down right in front of us and bailed well. Rex was straight in while Gin was a wee bit standoffish for a start but could not help herself in the end and joined in. While the 4 dogs were bailing my dog Tig was getting just a wee bit keen as he sometimes does. I explained to Mathew and Brad that if I was to give Tig a tone on the collar as he darts into the boar he would come back to me then sneak off and bail another boar. Just like that Tig came back to me then snuck off and bailed the black boar. As soon as he opened up the other dogs took off to his bark and before long they brought this boar down the hill so that we now had the two boars bailed together.
Rex and Gin left with a lot more experience than they could have got with their next ten hunts.
