When I went to feed the pigs the other day the main boar came walking down the wrong side of the fence line. I was hoping that when I threw some food over for the other pigs that he might get back in with them. However this was not the case so my next plane was to try and get him to follow me with the bucket down the track through the gate then down the outside of the pig block until we got down to the small gate that leads into the pig block. As soon as we got to the first corner all of the sheep came up to us and that caused the boar to take off back up towards the other pigs. This was when I decided to turn to option two.
Go and grab the whole five dogs and give him a real hoozle up. When the dogs first hit him he tried to run up the fence line but the dogs were far to quick for him. This had him turning and running back down the fence line and bailing against Mr Pigs fence. Eventually the dogs put to much pressure on him and he turned and ran straight through Mr Pigs fence. This is when things really started to heat up. This is the first time the these two pigs have been together and I knew there would be a scrap between them. As the dogs bailed the main boar Mr Pig went straight though them and started trying to rip him up.
Things were now going to a whole different level as there were dogs and pigs all trying to fight for dominance. A couple of times I had dogs and pigs running into my legs and I had to be very careful as Mr Pig was know getting real angry and acting very aggressive to me. This went on for about fifteen minutes before the main boar broke out of Mr Pigs block and down onto the four wheel drive track. By this time he was starting to get pretty tired so I got the dogs to back off and I grabbed him by the tail and walked him the next one hundred meters down hill and managed to man handle him through the gate back in the block.
I was hoping that this would stop him from wanting to get back out but yesterday when I went to feed the pigs he was back out again. Obviously I am going to have to check the fence as soon as I get a day out of the milk tankers
You sound a little bit puffed…. Must have been a decent effort.
It was hard work, nothing to do with being a bit older.
