The Lincoln competition weigh in was on the 24/7/20116. This comp is run by the Lincoln young farmers which consists of a lot of the Lincoln university students. This is the third year that the Ridgeline judging team has been judging this comp and each year we get to see the new students coming through who will be running this comp next year as well as the students that where involved in the organising the previous years.
This year they had their own celebrity, Josh James the Kiwi bushman who had also sponsored one of the main prizes and to prove that he was a good bugger he even put a shout on the bar. Check out his website thekiwibushman.co.nz. Also at this comp they had Shaun Monk as the MC for the day.
Shaun is becoming a well-known hunter around the Canterbury area and is very good on the microphone. As per most comps hunters will travel a long way to hunt one of their hot spots for a comp. Two such hunters had made a seven hour drive up country from Southland to weigh in their animals and it was well worth it for David Pask and Hieke Amtink.
Not only did they take out the prize for the second heaviest stag but they also won the average weight boar with the prize of a brand new dog box for a flat deck ute. The look on their faces was priceless when they came up and realised what they had won. Fifteen minutes before the end of weigh in I heard that one hunter was driving flat out to try and make the cut off time.
Right on the 2pm cut off this ute came flying around the corner with one of the boars flying off the side but he just made it with no time to spare. One minute later and he would have missed out weighing in his animals.
