Jamie Bear

This was to be the first time that Jamie had come to me with his two bitches Poppy and Gin. On our first run Gin found the boars and when Fog and Poppy arrived they targeted the young black and white boar and bailed him in the creek. We were quick to remove the dogs from this boar as we wanted to get them back onto a bigger boar. Next boar was Digger which the dogs bailed for an hour before being called off. On our way out the dogs took off after the Black boar. They did not stay on him too long and luckily the Black boar did not add any tattoos to the dogs.

Next morning we came back in with Jeff as the mentor dog and straight away they bailed all of the boars for a while until black and white tried to break out so the dogs stuck with him for the next ninety minutes. The dogs were putting a lot of pressure on him which kept him moving around. I had not long said to Jamie that to date the black and White boar had not ripped a single dog so we were quite relaxed sitting back listening to the dogs bailing away when we heard a dog get in too close so Jamie went up to see what was happening and discovered that Poppy was laying on the ground with a bit of blood around her so he carried her back down the hill and called the other dogs off. Gin also had a swelling chest. We had no option but to retire the the two dogs for the day which gave us a chance to go for a look around a couple of other spots to show Jamie some other hunting grounds. at one place my three dogs put up a bail Which turned out to be a white sow and a black boar with a white saddle. As the boar broke out the dogs took off after him only to bail the sow again so we called them off that one only to have them catch a grey sow next which was also let go.

Next morning we let the dogs out and it was good to see both Gin and Poppy managed to jump down out of their kennels so it was back into the training block with them. all of the boars were happily sleeping just over the fence so we could keep some control over this bail and it was when Boris broke out that I set the dogs after him. We had a really good run for the next ninety minutes. During this bail Boris broke off one of his tusks so this will take a wee while to grow back. At the bail Jamie was a bit cautious getting too close to Boris at the bail but after seeing me standing right against him while the dogs were bailing Jamie moved in and used a stick to keep the dogs at a good distance so as not to break the bail. Jamie manages a farm and it was easy to see that he was very good around livestock and had a very good understanding of how to get the best out of this bail.
