The way Gus has started hunting, I did not think that it was going to take him long before he was on the find. Gus was actually six months and three days on this hunt. I had Rastus, Bro and Gus. I was riding the four wheeler around the track when I noticed the dogs getting keen on a scent so I parked up and walked around to a spot that I know the pigs frequent. I was standing in the open pines on the edge of the native looking at the GPS and it was telling me that Rastus and Bro were 280 meters above me tracking while Gus was 100 meters behind heading up to them when the boar must have been heading down towards Gus as they all intersepted heading towards me. There was no barking going on but with the pace they were moving through the native I knew they were hard on a pig as he came running out not far from me, he would have had a head start of 40 meters on the dogs with Bro and Gus close together and Rastus 20 seconds behind. It did not take them long to pull him up in the open pines and right above the 4wd track.
I managed to get some good footage on the camera phone before shooting him and he rolled right onto the 4wd track.
Can’t get them any easier than that. He was the perfect size pig for Gus being a 71 lb boar.
