With the building of the house finished it is now time to get into the landscaping but before we can do this we have to fence off a yard to keep the sheep out. Digging some of the post holes proved to be a real nightmare as the ground was just hard rock. I concreted the post in as some of them were not as deep as they should have been. Because the fences were on some step angles I started the ends of the fences as a rail fence so that I did not have to use stays. I also had to use tie downs on some of the waratahs to stop them pulling out of the ground as the fence got tightened up. We painted the posts and rails with old engine oil. The fence is doing a good job of keeping the sheep out but those dam chickens are pushing their luck as they love getting into the compost that we brought and scattering it everywhere. We only have three chickens and they lay an egg each a day but I am going to have to build a run to keep them in until we can get some gardens established. I had one of my neighbors, Craig over recently and he planted out our vegetable garden in under an hour. Craig is addicted to gardening and he likes to do everything the easiest way possible.
He just broadcast the seed and we raked it in, job done. This will be a garden without lines and structure where lots of things will grow. One terrace is vegetables the terrace below will be herbs, on the other side of the drive there are many pumpkins planted, up the side of the drive there is sun flowers and below them there are corn and beans together. The idea of this is that when the corn grows the beans can grow up the corn. Instead of having a traditional lawn we are going to have a camomile lawn which is a herb and only grows to about eight inches so it does not need to be mowing and you can us it in your cooking.
Looking good and sounds great. Our garden at the crib is looking real good.
