In the last week Bro has been barking at the pigs through the fence so a thought it would be a good time to give him his 1st run through the training block. Rather than just going straight in to the boars I took Bro Rastus and Tig down the hill to move some sheep from one paddock to another so that Bro could also get to see different animals as I want him to grow up and experience all of the different animals that he is giong to come across.
He is already used to the sheep as he has seen Rastus working them a number of times now. I just discourage him when he tries to chase them so he is good around them. Once the sheep we’re moved we walked up through the pig block.
The boars were not in their normal place so the dogs had to work to find them. It was Tig that put up a bail on Boris. We spent the next hour bailing him so that Bro could gain some confidence. Bro did trail bark a little when Boris broke and would go up 100 meters with the other two dogs. Over the hour Bro’s confidence grew.
Next day I took Fog and Rastus with Bro for another run through the pig block but first we moved the sheep again. The improvement in Bro from the day before was good to see as he was now getting right into it. Once I entered the pig block I realised that I had forgotten the muzzles for the dogs so I would have to keep a close eye on them however they performed well, the dogs first bailed the black and white boar for about thirty minutes before I called the dogs off. On our way out of the block the dogs bailed the black boar so we spent another thirty minutes on him.
