Weighing racks
Weighing racks

This was to be the third year that the Ridgeline judging team have helped with running this comp and the first year for the new owner Stu Mee. One of the patrons John Bruce had a lot to do with the organize of the comp with a prize pool worth over eight thousand dollars of Money and prizes. John had also helped to get and set up one of the best hanging racks that our team has had the pleasure of using. These racks were erected in a rectangle shape and with a bit of Ridgeline tape we had the area in the middle clear of people so we did not have to work around people when moving animals from the scales to the racks to hang.
IMG_3553On the racks we hung the pigs up by their jaws with their front legs facing out so any person could walk around the outside and see the tag with the weight and the persons name who caught it. We also had the help of one lifter Tom who was a big man, he made a 3XL shirt look small. He was really put to the test when we had to lift up a 151 kg stag and defiantly earnt himself a beer at the end to replace some of the fluid that he had lost.

One hunter Don Burrows arrived to late for the weigh in as it had taken him a while to get his boar out. We did weigh his boar as he wanted to know what it weighed but was not entered. This boar would have taken out the best tusks if he had got it in on time as it measured 20 2/8. It was good to see that we had a couple of hunters come up to us and question us about weighing this boar in after the cut off time, this keeps us honest and they were OK once they found out that it was not entered, rules are rules.

Stu had done a very good job of supplying a free BBQ and roast pork sandwiches for all of the people at the comp.

Another highlight for me was at the prize giving when my son Bryce got up on the microphone for the first time and done the Ridgeline team proud reading out the prizes, this is one of the hardest jobs to do. A lot of people don’t realize how hard it can be until you are standing in front of three hundred people that are all looking at you. With our team taking on more competitions all the time it is good to have guys and girls in our team that can do all of the jobs from scrutineering, weighing recording and presenting.
